Fun fact: I dated a Swedish guy years ago and he gave me my first sip of aquavit…which was also my last 😂 that drink is no joke!

Happy midsommar!

Such a pretty part of the world and I’d love to visit someday. I love your Substack as it’s part culture and not just pretty items like others. A perfect blend. Thankyou.

This is fascinating and delightful! Thank you so much for writing this. I’ve long been fascinated with your part of the world and soak up any and all info about it; yours is the best of everything Swedish. I’m not a drinker but I’m so curious as to what aquavit and elderflower cordial must taste like. Also: I loooove pickled herring. Thank you for painting this picture of this magical place and tradition.

Thank you so much! And yes, I should have clarified that elderflower cordial (fläderblomssaft) is non-alcoholic. It’s essentially a sweet concentrate that you mix with still or sparkling water. My kids love it too.

Aquavit, on the other hand, is very much alcoholic and has a distinctive flavor, usually with notes of caraway/dill/fennel depending on the variety. It’s definitely an acquired taste and more of a tradition than for taste.

And I love that you’re a fellow pickled herring fan. You’re already halfway Swedish. 😊

Caraway/dill/fennel flavor!? I love details like this. Thanks again for sharing about your world. Lapland is another random fascination of mine.

I love traditions and how people celebrate them in every country. This one I remember very vividly, because I studied in Barcelona with a lot of student from Sweden and they invited me to a party, and we all dress with white dresses and flower crowns. Very nice! Love to learn about the history of it and loved this part “one of the strongest nights for folk magic. Young women would pick seven different wildflowers and place them under their pillow to dream of their future husband.” That’s so sweet ❤️. Like always the mood boards are a dream!

From all the wonderful creators ion Substack, I first mark heart and then read your post. It’s so comforting and so vividly written, that it transports me directly to Sweden. I like your writing so much. It’s never only or and in the first place about clothes and affiliate links. It’s always about story, such a beautiful flow and the parts so well connected. You are such a great ambassador of your country! Reading this made me want to celebrate Midsommer and make Strawberry White Chocolate Cheesecake.

Glad midsommar Antonia! 💐🌞💃

I love this post, it brings back so many happy memories. 😍 And your illustrations are gorgeous! 💖

I also wish you a happy reunion with your brother who lives in a favourite city of mine. 😊 When I lived in that part of the world I used to travel there regularly for shopping and for concerts. Xx

Tack Eva! 💛 And yes, they’ve lived in Singapore for more than two decades now and really love it. Just wish it wasn’t so far away!

Sort of related, do you have a great brown bread recipe?! As a Swedish-American living in California it’s something that I truly love but can’t find anywhere, and the various flours can be tricky to find too.
